Last week, I was lucky enough to receive a ticket to attend the 2012 Pittsburgh Financial Services Symposium presented by the Greater Pittsburgh Compliance Roundtable at the beautiful Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel.
The topic of the symposium was the ‘2013 Financial Playbook’. Many of the covered topics consisted of financial compliance and regulation issues. The new changes coming to compliance standards in Pennsylvania were also a major discussion point. Some of the most interesting topics included the occurrence of ‘flash crashes’ and the ongoing financial struggle of the Eurozone.
This symposium provided a great opportunity to meet and network with many Pittsburgh area professionals including lawyers, lobbyists, financial advisors, compliance officers, and regulators.
Later in the night the Greater Pittsburgh Compliance Roundtable also sponsored the Great Case Competition which was attended by two members of our current class, Amanda Putnam and Morgan Funk. They worked together as a team competing against other pairs of graduate students from across the Pittsburgh region. They both gained valuable experience and are looking forward to future case competitions.
