Duquesne sMBA alumni can be found all over the region, country, and world. Keeping in touch with Pittsburgh based alumni has been easy and very beneficial. This year, the program introduced Skype video chats with former students so that current students can network and gain insight from alumni who have left the Pittsburgh area.
Our first Skype spotlight was with Kris Crown, a 2010 graduate who is currently working at Seventh Generation in Vermont. Seventh Generation is the nation’s leading brand of household and personal care products that help protect human health and the environment; ranked by Fast Company as The World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies and recently named the number one green brand in the nation. Kris is a customer analyst, and works with Seventh Generation’s sales force.
Kris offered a lot of solid advice about his experience with the program, what the job process looked like, and how to make our degree a value proposition. He explained that though “an sMBA may get you in the door, you’re going to have to push it open.” He furthered by discussing how his client projects, course load, and traveling experience had value that set him aside from other applicants.
Kris certainly pushed the door open at Seventh Generation. Since being hired, he has already been promoted and is building a strong career with a great company.
Ben Feder, who worked as a journalist before returning to school for a sustainability degree, facilitated the lively conversation with the class. Looking forward to more video chats!
