The Red Ring Mixer: Connecting with Alumni

(Featured Blogger: Ashley Pawlish, MBA-Sustainability Class of 2013, College of Charleston, 2010)

Last week, our cohort gathered at the Red Ring, Duquesne’s on-campus restaurant, for an evening of food, fun, and networking with program alumni and faculty. Current MBA students were able to meet nearly thirty program graduates to get their perspectives on our one-year MBA and life after. Talking with alumni about classes, trips, projects, and professors made me excited and nervous all at once. There is so much to look forward to this year!

I was lucky enough to talk with Dana, a 2012 graduate who works as a project manager in training and leadership development. With the help of an alum, she landed her job with PNC Bank in Pittsburgh shortly before graduation. Dana’s boss at PNC is…you guessed it…still another Duquesne “sMBA” alum.

One of the highlights of the evening was the raffle. Maureen (Class of 2012) is operations director for Venture Outdoors. She donated two tickets to the Radical Reels Film Festival here in Pittsburgh and two passes for Three Rivers’ kayaking. I was lucky enough to win the tickets to Radical Reels — just another perk from having such great alumni.

The entire evening was such a great experience. It was comforting to realize that alumni are eager to help us in our job search, not only in Pittsburgh, but also throughout the world! I also enjoyed getting to know several professors outside the classroom.
